Kids Bed Canopy

Canopy beds for kids come in many different styles and with many different price tags. There are Princess beds, fairy beds and flower beds. Some canopies are traditional and are held up by the four posts of the bed, some have billowing gauzy fabric and some come from a hoop attached to the ceiling.

Contrary to belief, beds with canopies can also be for boys. Custom-made ones can be made into sailing boats with a half canopy as the sail, forts on stilts can have a mattress with a canopy as the roof or a theme of royalty can be used with a real one bringing forth stories of kings of the past who did sleep in such beds. These themes can be used for girls by changing colors and making the bed for a queen instead.

Traditional bed canopies for kids come in many choices. Disney themes are available in Princesses, Tinker Bell and Winnie the Pooh to name a few. You can customize your own bedding for a child if the theme they like is not available. For instance, a boy could have Disney Pixar Cars bedding on a bright red bed with a red canopy. Or a cowboy theme could have one painted navy, cowboy bedding and a navy canopy. Full canopies hanging over the entire bed would make a great tent for a camping theme. A full one over a girls bed could become a magical place with flowers, vines and fairy lights on a billowy canopy.

Hoop canopies are available in certain themes and colors but you can also customize your own. Purchase a hoop, attach the fabric of your choice and hang over the bed. You can get creative by attaching strips of ribbon, strings of beads or anything you can think of that is attachable. Strings of lights interspersed can add a warm glow to a room, create a cozy reading nook or ease night time fears. Strings of lights can also be hung on the frame of a regular canopy bed and can be found in shapes such as flowers or planets.

Children have always loved beds with canopies. They can be a safe refuge, an adventure waiting to happen or a cozy place to go to sleep. With all the canopy beds available for kids today there is sure to be one that suits every one, and you will definitely be able to find one that will make your child happy and even excited to go to sleep when bedtime comes!

How Are Sofa Beds Perfect For Your Teenager's Bedroom?

There are a few key factors to designing a teenager's bedroom and sofa beds fulfill more than just one of those requirements. First of all, it would be wise to keep in mind that your teenager (I'm being careful here not to make them sound like household pets!) will likely be occupying that room for a fair few years. So while the general decor may change with their own throes of individuality, the furniture will usually remain and the layout rarely alters unless it's done wrong in the first place.

Next on the agenda would be the issue of space, or more specifically, storage space. By the time we're well established in adulthood, we've bought just about all the bits and pieces we're going to. Of course there are always new additions and toys, but for the most part when something new is bought, something old is replaced. Teenagers however, don't have a lot of stuff when they start out. Give them a few years and their rate of accumulation skyrockets. Sofa beds increase usable space in a bedroom and you can use this space for DVDs, a desk, homework folders etc.

The teenager's bedroom is an expression of who they are, or at least, who they are at that present moment in time. They may go from pink, to blue, to deep red with black splashed around the place... but it's their expression. The decor may be simple or extravagant, but it's usually better to let them make their own decisions and support them, appreciating that it'll only likely last a year or so. They'll appreciate it as well and ultimately, you owe it to them to give them their very own space.

Sofa beds become relevant at this point since the selection is now endless and the quality is... well I'll say it; it makes the sofa beds cool. It's no hassle turning it from bed to sofa, many teenagers would like both but space doesn't usually allow for it, as mentioned earlier. The sofa bed, its bedding and its style can match the teenager's style and is simple enough to change, adapt and evolve as they do.

Their bedroom is never just a bedroom. It's where they sleep, sure. But it's also where they relax, where they get time to themselves to think, it's where they study and it's a private place to socialise with friends, there or over the phone. Sofa beds have the flexibility to transform the room's purpose as and when it's required. Bedroom to hangout it's incredibly simple, and usually it allows room for a desk and desk chair as well, so you've got an instant study. Hey, you've even made it a break room with the possibility of a quick nap as well!

When the time comes for your teenager to move on, the sofa bed doesn't have to go too. If you do what I suggested at the beginning of the article and think ahead, then you'll have just inherited an awesome sofa bed for guests in your own study, living room or conservatory (or rent the room out!).

Cheap Toy Cars For Kids

If you are a girl, you would probably be engrossed in playing with your Barbie dolls. As a boy, I am sure one of our favourite toys is actually the car toy. I guess the thing about toy cars is that they have got wheels. So the fascination is not just restricted to toy cars but also all other toys with wheels in them.

The most popular toy vehicles I bet would be those like Hot Wheels and Micro Machines. Boys would love to crash cars or even race them. Sometimes the play sets would include race tracks or make use of the pull of gravity such that the toy cars would move swiftly down from a height. Then there are those launchers which either work via a spring or be operated by battery or electricity. They can charge up your car and cause it to be powered and move at great speed!

Then there are some simple play sets which include the normal stuff that vehicles would encounter in daily life, like expressways, petrol kiosks, parking lots and what not's. Such are the inventions of the toy makers. Not to forget the many interesting train sets that are also included under the category of toys with wheels! There are so many different train models to choose from, and how you lay the tracks also counts! All this contribute to endless fun for the kids.

Talking about car toys, one must also not forget the physical cars that can be used to transport babies or young kids! What I am trying to say here are those mini cars or vehicles that are actually big enough for a child to sit in. Some of these actually come powered while others the child would have to use his or her leg powers! These toys are fun and sometimes the shopping centre even has trolleys that look like a car toy for the children to sit in as the parent pushes the trolley and goes about doing her supermarket grocery shopping! Oh then we also should not forget toy vehicles that are remote controlled! Wonder who is the genius who invented this such that the toy car can actually move without our hands touching them and even better so when we can control them from a distance and tell the car where to go!

Kids Bed Ladders - Safety Tips For Every Parent

Ladders for kids' beds are readily available for home delivery from Internet retail stores, so there is no reason to keep that old rickety or unstable bunkbed ladder that may be putting your child's safety at risk. You can purchase kids' bed ladders independently of the bunk bed, and they are affordably priced.

Kids love bunk beds and loft beds because they are an adventure in disguise. Parents love them because they save a lot of space in kids' small rooms and accommodate siblings and visiting relatives and overnight guests.

But kids' safety is the primary concern. Here are some tips to keep in mind when buying or evaluating a kids' bed ladder.

When the bunk ladder first arrives, check for damage to the box or bunk bed ladder inside. Please advise the shipper immediately if you notice any damage to the box or bunk ladder.
Test the ladder carefully yourself before allowing your child to climb it.
The ladder should sit firmly on the floor and hook over the front lower rail of the top bunk. The upper guard rails are not as firmly affixed to the bed frame, so use the front rail of the top bunk bed to attach the ladder.
The ladder should be sturdy. It should not wobble or bend in any direction. The rungs should not be loose or turn in place when a foot steps on them.
The bunk ladder should have flat-surfaced rungs for comfort and safety. Round rungs are more prone to slipping and are less comfortable to use.
Teach children always to use the bunkbed ladder for getting up and down from the top bunk. Climbing the sides may seem faster, but the spacing of foot holds is not as consistent and children may not anticipate a wider step.
Teach children always to face the ladder when climbing up or down the bunk bed ladder.
Regularly check that the ladder (and the guardrails and other bunk bed parts, for that matter) are tightly screwed down and properly in place.
Respect the manufacturer weight restrictions! Do not allow a person heavier than the weight restrictions to use the bunk bed ladder or the top bunk. Sturdy bunk beds and loft beds can typically accommodate up to 400-500 lbs. on the top bunk, but not all bunk beds are up to this standard.
Never allow a child under 5 years old on the top bunk of the bunk bed. This is a difficult rule to enforce. They may get up there with apparent ease, but most parents know that, at that age, they may not understand the safety issues on the top bunk, or know the safest way to use the ladder coming down. The return trip may not go so well.

Sturdy bunk bed ladders will help your child stay safe. If you've had enough trips to the emergency room, or just don't want to envision that circumstance, make sure that the bunk ladder for your child's bed is easy to use and meets the safety criteria above.

Triple Bunk Beds for Kids' Rooms

Many of us who grew up in the "old days" have very fond memories of life in bunk beds. Whether you shared your room with your brother or sister or first experienced a bunk bed away at camp or in a dorm, they are a unique bedding solution that has become something of an institution when it comes to bedroom furnishings.

Even with today's expansive homesteads, bunk beds are still a popular solution for kid's rooms. Even an only child can enjoy the benefits of multiple beds in their room, especially if he or she has friends or cousins who like to have sleepovers.

Today's bunk beds are a far cry from the ones of the past. Those of days gone by were often horribly creaky and slightly unstable, the product of poor engineering and design. But these beds out on the market now have nothing in common with their rickety ancestors. And you no longer have to just make do with doubling up - triple bunk beds for kids' rooms are all the rage these days.

The reason? Flexibility and fun. Why else would you want these beds? They give you unparalleled flexibility when it comes to sleeping arrangements. Don't think for a moment that these triple bunk beds look as if they belong on a Navy destroyer. They are not only functional, but extremely stylish.

You can choose from any number of arrangements for triple beds. While you can get ones that do have the beds three high in a single stack, you can also get L-shaped triple bunk beds that put two kids on the top in the 'L' and a second one down below.

You can also get L-shaped bunks with a lower and upper births stacked upon one another with a second bed middeck, creating the familiar 'L' shaped.

The choices are virtually endless, really. Not only do these designs come with three beds, but you can select a model that also has a built-in desk underneath. How do they manage to pack all that into a single bed unit? You'll have to see photos of them to believe it. If only they had these back in the day - we'd probably still be staying in our parent's homes, never wanting to leave.

Triple bunk beds aren't necessarily three beds, either. You can also get models that have a full sized bed down below and a twin up above, creating a handy sleep solution for those who entertain overnight guests. A couple can sleep down below while their child sleeps up above. Who says bunk beds are just for kids these days?

There are a couple of considerations to take into account when adding triple bunk beds to your home. First, some of these models would be better off with a higher ceiling. While they work fine with an 8' ceiling they really shine with a 10' ceiling. You won't hear things suddenly go bump in the night when the upper bunk mate suddenly sits up after a bad dream.

A triple bunk bed may seem like a nightmare to make up in the morning or even get into. But furniture designers have come up with some really smart concepts to make it easier to access those fitted sheet corners or even the bed. For the kids, getting into bed can be a ball. Some models have ladders or even a small staircase, making the bed a place for adventure as well as sleep. Don't be too surprised if you find the sheets hanging off the side in an attempt to create a makeshift fort. In fact, you may start to wonder why you ever made the bed in the first place.

Triple bunk beds are a big treat for youngsters and young teens a like. It makes it easy for them to have sleepover guests on occasion, where all the kids can spend the night in the same room without ever having to roll out a sleeping bag or make due with the floor. And if you have only one child in the family he or she can sleep on a different level every night, at least until a new baby brother or sister comes into the world.

If you're looking for a lot of flexibility for kids, triple bunk beds are the hot ticket for today's homes.

Raised Air Bed - Great For Kids and Comfort

A raised air bed is another great camping mattress to bring on your next camping trip. Many love this type of mattress because it is suitable for those who always have a hard time getting up when they sleep. Aside from a raised bed, another option is a double air mattress.

Most campers and hunters go for cheap inflatable air mattresses. They are not only very easy to carry; they are also convenient because you don't need to sleep directly on uneven hard terrains. These mattresses can also keep you warm as you sleep.

Air mattress insulation is very important because the outdoors can be very cold at night. The insulation systems for these mattresses resemble those of window glasses.

A raised air bed is also great for kids. During camping trips, most kids will find it very difficult to sleep. They tend to look for the bed they are used to sleeping every night. You will be surprised that even though they are so tired, if they're not comfortable, they can stay awake the whole night. To top it off, they will keep you awake the entire night as well. To help you with this, a raised air bed can do wonders. Most of the styles and designs of this type of mattress actually resemble most mattresses at home.

A camping air mattress is an essential item for camping and hunting trips. They are also great for couples who want to spend the night outdoors. They are warm and comfy. They usually come in compact sizes which you won't have trouble bringing around. The only thing to consider, particularly if you have a tent is to check if your raised air bed or camping air mattress actually fits in your tent. These mattresses come in different sizes so it's easy to find one that will fit your needs.

Intex Queen Foam Top Rising Comfort Raised Airbed Set offers a comfortable sleeping arrangement. It has a foam top. Its mattress is raised about 22 inches from the ground. Its flocked fabric is actually waterproof. Its top mattress is secured to an I-beam base. The mattress easily inflates and it features firmness adjustment buttons.

Kids Bed Sheets

One thing that every parent needs to stock up on is kids bed sheets. You only have to change your sheets once a week, but when it comes to your kids, you may have to change them a few times a week or even once a day, depending on their age and any problems they may have while growing. If you want to stock up on something that you really need, or are not sure what to tell people you need when they want to buy a gift, bed sheets is a great idea if you have any children under the age of twelve.

Kids bed sheets are not always a top priority, but they should be. If you have a child that has a bed wetting problem, you want to have more than two or three sets of sheets. In fact, you may want to have up to ten or twelve. You can wash and rewash, but life does not always give you the time you need to wash sheets and clean up other messes when things happen. Stay stocked up so that you have plenty of sheets to change when it seems that is all that you are doing and you simply don't have time to do six loads of wash every two days.

Kids that wet the bed often can not help it. If you or your spouse did it, your children may be genetically disposed to it as well. Punishing often does not help, but you can try new things to encourage them to do better. They are less likely to want to sleep through the urge to pee if they have kids bed sheets that they love, so get some with their favorite movie or cartoon characters. This is not a cure for bed wetting, as it is a medical problem, but it can make them want to try harder to overcome this problem. Sometimes, it is the small encouragements that matter the most.

If you go through a lot of kids bed sheets each week, you know why having more than a few sets is a good idea. Repeated washings will wear them out quicker. Some kids are also hard on their sheets because of the way that they move while sleeping. If you find that the kids bed sheets you have bought are of a higher quality. You are going to pay more for them, of course, but you are also going to get much longer life out of them. Remember that darker colors will fade, and that white ones are going to stain more easily. Some kids don't like to use the top sheet, so you may want to buy extra fitted sheets alone, which can save you some money.

Most kids sheets are in twin size, as that is what most kids have, but you may need other sizes. It may be harder to find what your kids like in full and even queen sizes, so you may have to go online to find those. If you can't find what they like, allow them to choose their own colors, or get what goes with their room. Don't forget to get pillowcases that go with the sheets if you don't buy them in sets. You can also find dust ruffles if your daughter would like to have a more feminine look to her room.

Proverbs For Kids

Stories are loved by children. Bed times or long drives are the best way to bond with your child. To keep a child interested, proverbial stories work wonders. It can actually be put to use while relating to routine doings in life. Proverbs and idioms can be done to gently make the child understand about right and wrong. Deep meanings are difficult for kids to comprehend and proverbs simplify the same. Important needs like caring, sharing and valuing money can be put through with proverbs.

'Actions speak louder than words' is the best way to discipline a child. Most times when children get into tantrums, a parent shouts in an equal volume or spanks the child. This can be alternated with a stern look or simply not speaking to the child. Finally repeating the proverb will make the child understand the meaning and most often kids do not repeat such aggressive behaviour. 'Beauty is skin deep' is another proverb which is beneficial. Older kids are very passionate about fashion trends. In the joy to explore, they disregard the value of money and natural living. This proverb can be mentioned to explain that there are many qualities that make a person beautiful and that seem higher than the physical attributes.

Children often get lazy. It takes patience to teach the child to put back the books or toys. More endurance is required to teach them to button their shirts or tie their shoe laces. One could fabricate more story in the proverb 'Grapes are sour' and explain how it is important to be independent and striving is essential to attain a goal. Additionally, 'no gains without pains' is the best way to teach the child to be self-regulating. The result is that they are habituated in putting a finished tray in the sink or wiping the hands after a wash.

Biblical proverbs are excellent. 'It is better to give, than receive.' The words of Jesus Christ are the best way to teach the child to share at the dinner table or when friends come over to play. A child loves to receive and we too, try hard to give the best to our children. The next time, the child has a chocolate bar, make it a point to teach the child to share a piece with its older sibling or a friend. Little thoughts have deep values. 'The early bird catches the worm', this proverb has much meaning in the later phases of life. Habits of getting up early in morning, timeliness in watching cartoon or doing the homework is about discipline. A child who has value for time is stress free, as being organized becomes his second nature.

Overcoming Entitlement - Aside From Loving Them, This is the Best Thing I Have Done For My Kids

Picture your precious child in your arms for the first time. So sweet... So little... So innocent. "This child," you think, "was meant to bring happiness into my life."

Now fast forward ten years. You have just spent an hour in the kitchen on a new recipe trying to include more nutritious foods into your family's diet when the same child you gave birth to sits down at the dinner table, looks at the new food and says, "Gross, what is that? I'm not going to eat that. I want Mac 'n' Cheese."

What happened between day one and dinner ten years later? Good question! Somewhere along the line this child developed what is called entitlement - the belief that the world, and those in it, should provide him with the things he wants in life; as well as never ask him to do something he doesn't want to do. This is a simple definition of a compound problem in American youth. Entitled individuals tend to lack responsibility, struggle in the work place, and give up on relationships and other things that take hard work to make successful. They are consumers, not producers. And the burden of their lifestyle is felt most by their families and their communities. Sadly, many areas of society, including sport heroes, media, and government, encourage and reinforce this belief system.

Is there anything we can do as a parent to help our kids not develop this horrible disease? Is there some sort of immunization for entitlement? The answer is YES! There are things we can do to help our kids avoid developing an attitude of entitlement. The answer lies in helping our kids learn early on that things are required of them in order to get things they want.

A practical example of this principle happens each morning at our home. As my kids wake up and make their way downstairs to get breakfast, they say, "I'm hungry Daddy. Will you get me some cereal?" To which I reply, "Absolutely, just as soon as you get dressed, make your bed, and pick up your room." Do they whine when I say this? Sometimes. Do I get them breakfast before they do these things? No. How do I handle their whining? By lovingly going brain dead and repeating, "as soon as you're dressed, your bed is made, and your room is clean (if they ask for help with their bed - I make one end and they make the other).

How does this simple daily exercise help immunize my kids from developing entitlement? It teaches them that they can't just sit back in life and expect to be served by others. It teaches them that they need to put forth effort in life in order to get their needs met (of course we are talking about kids, not babies).

How To Choose The Most Suitable Bunk Beds For Kids

Bunk beds are an excellent addition to children's rooms as they help in maximizing the floor space available to the kids for playing around and carrying out other physical activities which help them in growing up healthily. However, you should make sure that the bed you purchase suits the children's needs without causing problems to them or putting them at a risk of injury.

The first thing you should do before choosing bunk beds for kids is that you must make sure that the children are above six years old. Even if they are just a little over six, you must first assess them to make sure that they can easily climb small distances and do not have any physical weaknesses which would hinder their movement from the top bunk to the floor. Once you are fully satisfied that your children can use the bunk bed without any danger, you can move ahead to with your search for a suitable bed.

A noteworthy trait that you should look out for while choosing bunk beds for kids would be a high railing on at least three sides of the top bunk. Some beds leave one side of the top bunk without a railing as this side would be facing the wall and there would not be much danger from falling off there. However, you must make sure during the placement of the bed that the bed is correctly oriented and that the side with the railing is not plastered against the wall. Also, make sure to choose those beds which do not have retractable rails which retract very easily as the child may accidentally trigger the rail to fall down during his or her sleep which would put him in a lot of danger.

Another feature that you must look out for while choosing such beds for kids is that there should be a safe way for the children to reach the top bunk. A ladder is the most common feature in bunk beds for kids and you must make sure that the ladder is not made out of thin wood or that the ladder is not weak at its base. Also the spacing between the steps on the ladder must be small but not small enough to cause the children to get their feet stuck in them while they are climbing the ladder. Thus, choosing bunk beds for kids is a task that should be carried out very carefully to avoid causing problems in the future.

Stop Bed-Wetting and ADHD Behavior - Do the Wiggle Worm

Bed wetting can be embarrassing for the child and exhausting for mom. Sleepovers are out of the question. All that money spent on laundry could be spent on food (which isn't getting any cheaper). Your time spent stripping the bed, washing the sheets and making the bed again, day after day, could be spent working from home and spending quality time with your child.

My son used to wet the bed every day. The pediatrician told me that it was nothing to worry about because the bladder doesn't mature until age 7. But, then why didn't all the other kids' moms I knew have bed wetters? As a working mom, I was tired of spending my valuable time and money washing sheets all the time.

From experience with my son, and as a Montessori preschool teacher, I have learned three simple ways to stop bedwetting and ADHD behaviors at the same time. This article will focus on a primitive reflex called the Spinal Galant Reflex.

What's that?

The Spinal Galant reflex is one of many primitive reflexes present at birth. Most people are familiar with sucking and rooting, grasping (Palmar Reflex), the startle reflex (Moro Reflex). These are all important developmental milestones that doctors observe to judge the child's development. The Spinal Galant Reflex exists to help the baby move down the birth canal. A light stroke to the lower end of the spine causes him to instantly and involuntarily move his back to that side.

This reflex is active at birth and is normally integrated and then inhibited by nine months of age. Children who are delivered c-section often do not integrate this reflex. Unless there is intervention, the reflex stays active into adulthood. My son was delivered c-section. So, it was natural that his Spinal Galant Reflex stayed active even into elementary school.

Many children who have an active Spinal Galant reflex have trouble sitting in their chair for any length of time and they tend to wet the bed. If you tell this child to sit up straight with his back against the chair, the chair will tickle his back and he will find all kinds of awkward positions to avoid having the chair touch his back. This hinders his ability to pay attention in class. Then, he gets tagged as an ADHD child.

An active Spinal Galant reflex can cause bed-wetting because contact with the bedding triggers that reflex. Tickling can have the same effect. At the preschool where I worked for three years, several children who had active Spinal Galant reflexes could not stay seated for any length of time. It seemed that their bottoms were spring loaded. They worked and ate standing up at the table. At circle time, they were rolling on the floor instead of sitting on their bottoms. Also, they tended to wear their pants like a plumber- below the waist. Those who were nappers tended to wet the bed at naptime.

We did a simple rocking exercise, wiggling the children's hips while the children were lying face down on the bed, every day at nap time.We call it the wiggle worm. This exercise comes from Rhythmic Movement Training and it helps integrate the Spinal Gallant reflex. After several months of this rocking, the reflex was integrated and the bed wetting stopped. I also do this exercise with my son. It helps him calm down. He is able to sit for an entire meal, now. He can even complete an entire homework assignment in one sitting. He rarely wets the bed anymore.

Why Do I Have Bed Bugs in My House?

Many of the seemingly posh residences and areas are being victims of the bedbugs including many important historical buildings that have million dollar maintenance budget. The question remains, what is the origin of this new weave of these notorious bed bugs?

Here are few sources of bug infestation.

• Travel to the infected area
• Guests houses, restaurants
• Tourist attractions
• Children and pets
• Sports stadiums and cinemas
• Office and hotels

Most of students are living away from the family these days especially the colleges have less than five percent students that reside with their family. Living away from the family in the hostel or some student accommodation is often the most liberating time for the kids so they tend to slack in the cleaning department. The result is often the infestation of bedbugs. When these kids come back they often carry these bugs back to home, so there is a whole vicious cycle which starts all over again.

If you start to plot the map of movement the result will be quite shocking. There is no state that has been left out of this current infestation. While the blame of this recent attack has to be the falling prison system that often provides the inadequate facilities to the many people serving. The prisons are natural places that can have huge bed bug problems. There is lack of cleaning and the furniture is often centuries old in many cases.

There are many offbeat and forgotten areas that often attract the tourists. They go to caves, in jungles and into the deep rainforests and travel back to the homes almost daily in hundreds of thousands yearly. Even the most luxurious hotels tend to have few empty rooms every few days in each month. There is huge traffic in these places that can cause the arrival and hosting of bugs quite easily too.

How to Build a Bunk - Tips to Build Your Own Bunk Bed

If you are planning to learn how to build a bunk bed for you or even for your own child, I say, this kind of beds are good options as a space saver.

I've built one myself for my kid's room and with the kiddie design I've put in, my children are simply loving as they can also have their sense of style added giving it their own stamp of personality even if one bed is atop another.

Learning how to build a bunk bed entails more work and planning than say, building furniture. However, with meticulous planning and commitment to get the job done, building a this kind of bed is certainly doable as long as you know how to follow easy instruction from a ready made plans.

I've learned many things while I was building a building. Things, which I'm about to share with you in this article.

SAFETY

Safety is a prime concern for me as a parent. You know hoe growing children are. One is often enough to make you dizzy with their flurry of activities. Put two of them in the same room, and it's bound to be some kind of a circus.

That's why I made sure I built a very sturdy bed for both of them. I chose a hard wood for this purpose as it provides more stability to the structure.

Also, more attention should be given in building the ladder as well as the guard rails of the the top bunk. And personally, I have my younger kid stay on the lower bunk as I just think that any kid below 4 should not be allowed to sleep on the upper bunk for safety reasons.

TOOLS AND MATERIALS

You can build a bunk bed just by using some basic hand tools like saw and drill. As for the materials, the type of wood you are going to use is completely up to you. You just have to make sure that it is sturdy enough.

Based on experience, you're going to need 4 4x4 for the posts, and 4 2x4 but then again, wood usage is dependent on the design of the bunk bed. I've used more wood than necessary as I've installed some built in panels and small cabinet for the bunk bed.

DESIGNS AND FEATURES

The first time I've let my kids on my plans to build a bunk bed, they're completely against the idea, especially my eldest. However, letting them see the design of the bunk bed I'm planning to build for them, they were eager to have the bunk bed done.

They completely love the panels and cabinets I've installed in their own space of the bed.

It was an extra effort I have to put in but having a bed plan beforehand made everything easier and faster for me. Personally, I've always been using plans for each woodworking project I'm building and building a bunk bed for my kids is no exception.

A good plan makes it easier for me to execute as it has the necessary step-by-step instruction so I don't have to overlook some things. Of course, having pictures thrown in definitely made the instruction easier to follow.

Sleepwalking Children - 4 Must Knows For Worried Parents

Somnambulism or sleepwalking, as it is commonly called, is found to affect around 14 percent of children between the ages of five and twelve, at least once. A quarter of these children undergo more than one sleepwalking episodes. Sleepwalking is observed more among boys and less among girls. Many children who develop this sleep disorder overcome it as they grow up and their nervous systems become stronger. By adolescence, they are more or less cured.

1. What Happens during Sleepwalking?

Sleepwalking is a condition in which the body can move even though the brain is half asleep. Sleepwalkers commonly get out of bed and roam all over the house. Some of them even get dressed and leave the house. Sleepwalkers' eyes remain open, and they can see what is in front of them. However, their expressions are blank and they are unable to respond either to conversation or to their names being called out.

Sleepwalkers are usually clumsy and prone to bump into things and knock them over things as they walk around the house. Usually a sleepwalking session lasts for a quarter of an hour; sometimes, it can go on for an hour or more than an hour. A child who is prone to sleepwalking usually begins walking in his or her sleep an hour or two after going to bed.

2. Sleepwalking in Children

Sleepwalking among children is due to a poorly developed sleep/wake cycle. In normal circumstances, the entire brain awakes at the same time. A sleepwalker's brain, however, is different in the sense that only a portion of it wakes up at a time. The portion of the brain that manages mobility awakens while the portion that deals with cognition and awareness is still asleep. A sleepwalking child is actually fast asleep.

Children usually grow out of this tendency, and parents do not have to worry about it. Treatment is not required. All you have to do as a parent is to take the child gently back to bed. You do not have to awaken the child.

3. Sleepwalking in Adults

About one percent adults suffer from somnambulism. They need not have had this problem as a child. Sleepwalking in adults is due to complex problems such as anxiety, sleep fragmentation, stress, sleep deprivation, and also medical disorders such as epilepsy.

Unlike children, adults have to take treatment for this condition, and the type of treatment they have to take depends on the type of dangerous situations they are exposed to during their sleepwalking sessions. For instance, sleepwalkers who open the doors and walk on a street busy with traffic is in great danger while a sleepwalker who just walks around in the hall is not in any dangerous situation. Sleepwalkers can go in for self hypnosis, behavioral therapies, and prescription medication to treat their condition.

4. Protection of Sleepwalkers

Certain precautions should be taken to protect sleepwalkers from dangerous situations. Sleepwalking adults or children should ensure that they are in a safe place during their sleepwalking session. They should take care to see that they will not get injured during a sleepwalking session.

Parents should not keep any sharp or fragile objects in a child's room. Lock the doors of a sleepwalkers room to prevent him or her from venturing out at night. Fixing a bell to alert a parent or caregiver if a child go out of the room is a great idea. Large glass doors or windows should be covered by heavy curtains to prevent sleepwalkers from trying to walk through them during their sleepwalking sessions.

Children who sleepwalk should be given ample protection till they outgrow this disorder. There is a possibility of them running into dangerous situations during their sleepwalking sessions.

Can Nightmares in Young Children and Bed Wetting in Kids Be Cured by Hypnosis?

Michelle Gets A Midnight Surprise And Contemplates Her Childs Nightmares

Don't you just hate it when you get woken up in the middle of the night by a sobbing child! Especially if it's for bed wetting reasons, and you have to do a bit of nocturnal bed sheet changing while you are half-asleep.

I have been there and done that, and I thank God that we are past that stage now. But sometimes we still have an occasional nightmare to contend with, which usually results in me cuddling my son back to sleep with re-assuring stories and funny jokes.

However, I do still have conversations in the school playground from fellow parents who are still suffering from bed wetting in kids. One parent in particular told me she cured her son's bed wetting through using a hypnosis CD. This made me curious, so I had a search around on the internet for some information about hypnosis for children.

Hypnosis for Children. Could This Be A Cure For Bed Wetting And Nightmares In Young Children?

There are more and more children who are feeling the effects of broken sleep due to bed wetting or having nightmares. Night time waking among children is attributed mainly to the child's nightmares. These may be an effect of several factors like environmental aspects, or consumption of caffeine containing drinks. Children who go to sleep late of course tend to wake up late.

Hypnosis for children is used to help children relax or calm down before bedtime. In contrast to what you may think, you do not have to be asleep to be affected by hypnosis, but in a deep state of relaxation. The subconscious is more receptive to suggestion during this period. There are also visualization techniques you can use with your child in which the mind can be programmed to shrug off the negative thoughts and feeling that bring on nightmares or bed wetting. You can take sessions personally from a qualified practitioner who will also give you some tips to use at home, or buy a specialised CD or DVD that have been produced with children in mind.

Prevention is still better than cure, so with bed wetting focus more on the success they have achieved for staying dry overnight. Remind them to visit the toilet before going to bed, and try limiting their drink intake during the two hours before going to bed.

So when searching for bed wetting solutions for children, or help for your childs nightmares, hypnosis for children could be a perfect solution.

Here is to nights free from nightmares in young children, and no more bed wetting in kids!

Children's Loft Beds

Loft beds are great space savers. They allow more efficient utilization of the available household space. Loft beds provide the ideal solution for children of all ages.

The popular options with small children are, loft beds with study desks or a chest for storing clothes, books or toys. Older children may prefer to use their bedroom to study or spend time with their friends. In this case, a loft bed with a sofa or study desk underneath the bed would be the ideal combination. Space utilization, in addition to being more functional, also creates a nice, quiet and cozy atmosphere in the children?s bedroom. When there is more than one child in the family, a loft bed with an additional bed, is a logical solution to make maximum use of all the space available in the room. This also makes more space available on the floor for play and toys.

There are many agencies that sell children?s loft beds along with a host of related and complementary accessories. It is also possible to find a large variety of loft beds on the Net. The local suppliers offer to deliver the loft bed components and also arrange to assemble the bed and accessories at the purchaser?s residence.

Things may be slightly more complicated if the loft bed is purchased through the Internet, from online suppliers. It is wise to double-check whether the necessary space is available in the children?s room to fit the loft bed assembly comfortably. Care should also be taken to check that access is available to move the loft bed to the planned location. The reason is that it is difficult to return or replace goods bought on the Net once the payment is made. It is also better to order the goods online from a reputed supplier.

How and Why to Buy Bunk Beds for Kids

There are many ways that you can decorate your children's room, add more playing space, and give their room a classy, modern look. All of these things can be achieved by making one simple addition to their room: a bunk bed. There are many kinds of bunk beds, and these beds for kids can easily be used to enhance the look of their room, add more space, and complete the interior design of their bedroom. It is important that you know what to look for when shopping for beds for your kids.

The first thing to determine is how much space you want the bed to take up. There are many bunk beds for kids that are designed to be space economical, while many other beds are large, luxurious affairs that use a lot of space. Knowing how much room space you want your kids' bunk bed to occupy can help you make the right decision, as you need to know how much space to leave on either side as well as above the top bunk of the bed.

There are many types of beds to choose from, and it is vital that you know which is best for your children's rooms. The basic beds are usually two simple twin sized beds, one on top of the other. Some beds come as a twin size mattress on top, and a single or double mattress on the bottom. Loft beds are usually single beds over a place to store books and toys, or some come with a single bed over a futon. Some beds even offer three tiers, and these are great if you have three children of similar age sharing a room.

You should also look at the different special features that your children will need in their bed, such as storage areas, shelves, or storage space under the bed. Some beds come with trundles for smaller children, while others features slides and tents to make the bed more fun and exciting for your children. Ask your children and see what features they want in a bunk bed.

There are wooden bunk beds that are sturdy and classic, and often these bunk beds for kids are very heavy and solid. Metal bunk beds are usually lightweight and fairly easy to assemble, though they are not as strong as most wooden beds. You can find beds of any color, and you can peruse the different bed options to find one that complements your interior décor.

The safety of the bunk is vital, and you should make sure that it has all of the safety features. A ladder is vital for children climbing into the top bunk, and having safety railing all around the edges of the top bunk will ensure that your child doesn't fall out in the middle of the night.

Choosing a bed for your kids can be a fun family activity, and together you can all choose the bed that will help create more space in your children's room. Use the simple tips above to help you narrow down your choices and make a wise decision.

Information Regarding Pin-On Diapers For Older Children and Teenagers With Bedwetting Problems

This article discusses information about cloth diapers for bed-wetting, specifically pin-on diapers. As mentioned in another article, many people consider pin-on diapers to be the best type of reusable diaper to use for bed-wetting because most of them provide the best absorbency for nighttime incontinence. In general they seem to be more absorbent than alternatives such as pull-on cloth diapers. Also the pin type closures are supposed to have certain advantages over other types of diaper closures.

For example I've read that alternative diaper fasteners such as Velcro can wear out and the snaps on snap-on diapers can break. Some people find that snap-on diapers and Velcro diapers are more convenient to use for daytime use when multiple changes might be required although some people use pin-on diapers during the day also. If you have an older child, adolescent, or teenager that wets the bed you might want to consider using pin-on diapers covered by plastic pants. A valuable source for information about diapers and waterproof pants is "The New Diaper Primer" which is published on the incontinentsupport.org website. What makes this source particularly valuable is that it is written by someone who suffers from incontinence. The section on pin-on diapers is particularly valuable for any parent who is thinking about using these diapers to manage their child or teenager's bed-wetting. This is a guide which talks about how to fold pin-on diapers to get the most effective protection from the diapers and avoid leaks, the different types of cloth diapers available, how to launder cloth diapers among other topics.

One of the key points to consider when wearing cloth diapers is wearing multiple diaper layers. This coupled with proper pinning techniques is supposed to provide the best protection for problems such as bed-wetting. Additionally, most pull-on diapers do not offer adequate protection for bed-wetting. This is something that parents need to keep in mind if they decide to purchase reusable products to manage their youngster's bed-wetting. Adults with bed-wetting problems should also keep this point in mind. The main reason for the introduction of products such as pull-on diapers is the stigma associated with wearing diapers. Furthermore the label "pull-on diapers" is a misnomer as many products labeled "pull-on diapers" are not really diapers at all but extra thick underwear. One person said that the products that are labeled pull-on diapers are basically training pants which generally don't have the absorbency required to deal with heavy incontinence such as bed-wetting. As far as increasing absorbency of diapers, another method to consider is adding liners to diapers. One person on an incontinence forum who wore adult cloth diapers to bed said that he used the Gerber brand baby cloth diapers as a liner or "booster pad" for the adult cloth diapers. Gerber cloth diapers can be found at stores such as Target and Walmart in the infants section of the store. In addition you can purchase other diapering supplies at these stores such as diaper pins(known as safety pins), baby wipes, powder, and diaper rash ointment such as Desitin, Balmex, A&D ointment, in addition to other items. This would be a good time to talk about skin care. There have been a number of articles pointing out the importance of having a good skin care regimen when incontinent. Although wearing diapers do a good job of protecting both the person and bed they can also cause skin problems if you don't clean the skin carefully after waking up and changing out of the diaper.

The Health Central Network has an article called "Skin care and incontinence" which talks about the various products out there designed to minimize or prevent the occurrence of skin problems resulting from incontinence including moisturizing creams, skin cleansers such as aerosol sprays, foams, and wet wipes, as well as skin sealants and moisture barriers including creams and ointments. Additional sources of information about how to maintain healthy skin when incontinent include wocn nurses (known as wound, ostomy, and continence nurses), urologists, your primary care physician, and your pharmacist. All of these individuals might also have suggestions regarding this issue. There are also a couple of organizations that you can contact-The Simon Foundation for Continence and the National Association for Continence. These organizations might be able to provide you with information about proper skin care when wearing incontinence garments such as websites, articles, and other sources. Finally incontinence forums could be an especially good source of information on this topic because these people have first hand experience dealing with incontinence and are well aware of the skin problems that can result from wearing incontinence garments and how best to deal with these problems. Some companies that carry skin care products for incontinence include Continence Connection, National Incontinence, and HDIS(Home Delivery Incontinence Supplies).

Right now I'd like to talk briefly about both getting a proper fit with cloth diapers and how comfortable the diapers are. The author of the New Diaper Primer in his discussion on cloth diapers says that the size and weight of the diapers are important factors in both how well the diapers fit and how comfortable the diapers are.

Another key point mentioned about cloth diapers is their wicking ability. The technical term for wicking is capillary action. This guide mentions two aspects of diapers that are important-absorbency and wicking. This is how wicking is defined- "Wicking is the ability of cotton(and some other fabrics) to pass liquid along from "particle" to "particle" " and Wikipedia defines capillary action in this manner- "Wicking is to absorb something and then drain like a wick. Paper towels absorb liquid through capillary action, allowing a fluid to be transferred from a surface to the towel. The small pores of a sponge act as small capillaries, causing it to absorb a comparatively large amount of fluid. Some modern sport and exercise fabrics use capillary action to "wick" away sweat from the skin. These are often referred to as wicking fabrics, after the capillary properties of a candle and lamp wicks." Basically wicking allows multiple wetting of the diaper by dispersing liquid throughout the diaper.

The following analogy describes how wicking works: "Picture, if you will, adding multiple tablespoons of water to the face cloth. As you dump a second or third spoonful, note how the center gets saturated but then recovers over time (as wicking transfers the liquid to dryer parts). When you add the next one, you see the saturation occurs again, just in the center where you added the water and then wicks into the rest of the face cloth as time passes. That momentarily saturated central spot becomes un-saturated after time. Wicking occurs and the particles have transferred liquid to other, outlying particles. " Basically wicking allows time for the diaper to disperse or transfer liquid throughout the diaper allowing it time to dry, which in turn makes the diaper capable of absorbing more liquid later if the person wets again. Cloth diapers have superior wicking abilities which makes them a good choice for heavy incontinence such as bed-wetting because of their ability to handle multiple wettings. As I have mentioned, some bed-wetters wet multiple times during the night and the pin-on diapers seem like they'd be more effective in regards to protecting the youngster if they do wet more than once at night. This will enable the child or teenager to get a better night's sleep because they won't have to get up throughout the night to change themselves if they use reusable pull-on garments instead of pin-on diapers.

There are several different types of fabrics that cloth diapers can be made of. These fabrics are birds-eye, terry cloth, flannel, and gauze. The author of the Diaper Primer thinks highly of gauze diapers. Both Adultclothdiaper.com and Angel Fluff sell gauze diapers. According to the Adultclothdiaper.com website one of the advantages of gauze diapers is that they allow air to circulate very well which helps to reduce the likelihood of diaper rash. Additionally, they're real absorbent and are very comfortable to wear in hot weather. There are also different styles of pin-on diapers-prefold, flat, and contour. Contour diapers can have elastic in the waist and and leg openings and are usually more expensive than flat diapers. Flat diapers are not used much anymore and the only place that sells flat diapers near the U. S. is a company based in Canada called Bear Bottom. Prefold diapers have a soaker strip in the center of the diaper. Prefolds are the most popular style of adult cloth diapers. For a more in depth discussion about the different styles of cloth diapers see chapter 7 of the New Diaper Primer. This chapter is called "Diaper Types" and talks about the different types of cloth diapers and the different kinds of fabrics cloth diapers can be made of. As mentioned at the start of this article the web address for this information is http://www.incontinentsupport.org.

One of the things that must be stressed is that picking an incontinence product is very subjective. In some cases there is a great deal of trial and error involved in picking a product that will best meet your needs. The factors involved in making this decision include the type and level of incontinence, whether your incontinence occurs during the day, night, or both, whether or not you want(or have) the time to wash diapers and plastic pants, etc. That is one of the reasons people prefer disposables-for the convenience they offer. If finances permit you might consider trying both disposable tape-on diapers and pin-on diapers and plastic pants to manage your youngster's bed-wetting. By trying both kinds you'll be able to determine what works best for you. Many people use both kinds of diapers. Some individuals alternate using different types of diapers-on some nights they wear pin-on diapers covered with plastic pants and other nights they wear disposable diapers to bed. There are also cases where people wear cloth diapers and plastic pants only during certain times of the year.

For example some people use the pin-on diapers and plastic pants to manage their bed-wetting during the cooler seasons such as fall, spring, and winter, whereas during the summer months they switch to tape-on style diapers(also known as disposable briefs) In addition some people with both day and night incontinence wear disposables during the day and pin-on diapers at night. It's good to be flexible and open-minded. That being said, some people might be inclined to stick with cloth diapers because of the savings and what many people consider to be the environmental advantages of cloth diapers. An advantage I see of using both disposable diapers and pin-on diapers is that you're washing the diapers and plastic pants less which means that theoretically they should last longer. Cloth diapers do wear out over time. If you do decide to use both styles of diapers you can have the child or teenager wear the pin-on diapers and plastic pants for four nights and the disposable diapers for three nights (or vice versa) Ultimately parents have to decide for themselves whether or not to use both kinds of diapers for their bed-wetting child or teen. Some of the factors that need to be considered when making this decision include your budget(do you want to spend the extra money for disposable diapers or do you want to save money by just using cloth diapers) and if the child or teenager feels uncomfortable wearing the pin-on diapers covered with plastic pants during the spring and summer months when the weather is real hot. . If this is the case, you should consider switching to disposable diapers during this time. Just like some parents use both cloth and disposable diapers for their babies, it might be a good idea to consider using both kinds.

A good way to get information about incontinence products is to go to incontinence forums and ask questions about various forms of protection. As far as pin-on diapers are concerned, there seem to be certain advantages over pull-on cloth diapers for bed-wetting. One person who used both pin-on diapers and reusable pull-on diapers said that the pull-on diapers wear out faster than the pin-on diapers. Another person mentioned that it's easier to put additional layers of material in a pin-on diaper to increase the absorbency of the diaper. With a pull-on diaper you can put extra material in the diaper to make it more absorbent, but if you move around a lot at night there's the possibility of the extra material in the pull-up shifting around and bunching up which can be uncomfortable in addition to causing leaks. This person also mentioned a few other advantages that pin-on diapers have over pull-on diapers, particularly for heavy incontinence such as bed-wetting. One is that the pin-on diapers have a more snug fit which is an advantage if you move around a lot at night. Also diapers that have a more snug fit are more effective at preventing leaks.

Second, the elastic waist bands on pull-on diapers are not adequate to hold the pants up when they get wet. When pull-on diapers get wet, the pants have a tendency to get heavy and the elastic waist band will not be able to hold the pants up. Third, the pin-on diapers are generally of higher quality than the pull-ups. This, combined with the fact that it's easier to manage layering in a pin-on diaper, results in a thicker diaper that is more snug and offers better protection at night. The other disadvantage of pull-on diapers which was mentioned in an article on diaper types was that in general pull-on diapers aren't absorbent enough to handle multiple wettings because they're not thick enough. If you wet all night while you sleep the pull-on type diapers will not be absorbent enough to deal with this type of problem. One article has this to say regarding pull-on cloth diapers -"Most are typically a thick pair of underpants with a soaker strip sewn in the crotch, which in some cases doesn't even extend from waist to waist. We wish to emphasize that the the pull-on is not a "full fledged diaper". "

Another point I'd like to mention regarding using cloth diapers to manage bed-wetting. If you do decide to use pin-on diapers keep in mind you must use waterproof pants to cover the diapers. The most widely used type of waterproof pants are plastic pants. Plastic pants such as the Gary, Suprima, and Comco brands have excellent reputations. Plastic pants have many advantages over other styles of waterproof pants including comfort, durability, and cost.

Some companies that sell pin-on cloth diapers for both youth and adults include Loving Comfort Diaper Company, Angel Fluff Diaper Company, Babykins (also known as KINS which stands for Kinder Incontinence Supplies), and Adultclothdiaper.com (also known as All Together Enterprises) I was on the Loving Comfort Diaper Company website and they mention that they can custom design diapers to meet specific needs(for instance if you have a child or teenager that won't fit into standard size diapers or if you need diapers with a particular level of absorbency they can design diapers that meet those needs). I read on an incontinence forum that Loving Comfort might have gone out of business. If you consider purchasing pin-on diapers from this company I would try to contact them to make sure.

Whatever you do don't get discouraged if it takes you a while to find a suitable product to manage your child or teenager's bed-wetting. There's a lot of high quality products out there to deal with bed-wetting and other incontinence problems. As with everything else in life it's good to be well informed. This includes reading as much as you can and asking questions. With perseverance you'll be able to find a product that will make your older child or teen feel confident and secure.

Bed Bug Bites Kids - Getting Rid of Bed Bugs From Your Kids Skin Is Not Rocket Science

Bed bug bites on your kids skin can end in misery for both you and your precious one if quick steps are not taken The bugs are parasites that survive by sucking warm blood from their host, and they usually attack at night when their host is sleeping. Bed bugs got their name because they are commonly found on beds and mattresses, couches, airplane seats, and on the cracks and crevices of hotel beds and sofa sets. The bites do not cause the spread of serious nor minor diseases, but they can cause distress and discomfort out of the itchy and reddish welts brought by tick bites on human.

How Does a Bug Attack?

Bites on kids and adults are inflicted when a bed bug gets in contact with the skin surface of a human being. Bed bugs can also feed on warm-blooded animals, but human beings are more susceptible to bug bites because of its exposed skin surfaces unlike furry animals. Before sucking blood on their host, the bed bug injects saliva into the skin. Their saliva contains chemicals that prevent blood from clotting while this tick bites on human. A bed bug's saliva also contains natural anesthetic that prevents the host from feeling anything while it is still sucking.

Risk Factors of Bed Bugs

The bites are caused by tiny insects that cannot be seen without a closer look or serious scrutiny on possible areas where these bugs are located. However, there are certain situations that can make these parasites feed on your children more easily. These situations include any of the following:

* Buying second-hand mattresses or pre-owned furniture

* Recent travel with your kids and family where you stayed in hotel rooms

* Tick bites on human are increasingly noticed among students who stay in dormitories due to foreign students who possibly transfer bed bugs through airplanes and hotel stopovers

* Mattresses or beds that are not regularly cleaned or inspected

Home Treatment for Bug Bites

Tick bites on human especially children do not require serious medical attention, however if not treated quickly they can cause misery and discomfort. The bites can be treated by using home remedies or concoctions derived from your kitchen or refrigerator. These home cures include the following:

* Make a paste out of water and baking soda then apply it directly on the bug bites.

* If you suspect that you were bitten with bed bugs, wash the bitten area with rubbing alcohol to get rid of the saliva's itchy effect on human skin.

* You can also mix herbal tea powder and water to make a solution. Apply the solution on the affected area to get rid of itchiness.

* Get a slice of raw potato and place it over the welts and bites. Leave it on for a few minutes to get rid of swelling.

* Mix a teaspoon of oatmeal with water to make a paste. Apply it on the tick bites on human to reduce the redness. Powder oatmeal can also have the same healing effect on the host.

Prevention Techniques

* Avoid buying second-hand furniture and mattresses.

* Sundry your foams and mattresses every now and then to naturally kill bed bugs.

* Have your sofas and furniture dry-cleaned to prevent bed bug bites on your little ones.

Be Creative - Make Your Canopy Tent For Bed

Life is getting more difficult due to the increase price of many products. Even if you want to buy something that you really want, you cannot because you lack money. One thing that is desired by many is having a canopy tent for bed.

You do not need to buy this. Through your creativity, you can come up with one. Below are some steps that may guide you.

1. Purchase a hook that can hold 50 pounds or more. Attach it on the ceiling. It must be align with the exact center of your bed.

2. Decide on the length that you want. You can have your canopy which touches the bed only. Or, you can have it reach the floor.

3. After making a decision, start measuring now. You need to measure three things. First, measure the height from the ceiling to the floor. Second, measure the distance between the ceiling hook to the side of the bed. Third, measure the length of the bed. After measuring those three, double their results.

4. Cut now the fabric according to your measurements. You should come up with two pieces with the measurement of length and another two for the width. Then, cut one piece of the fabric with the length measurement. Cut it up to the middle only. You should stop cutting just before you reach the top. Hem all the sides of the split to avoid fraying.

5. Sew one length piece to one width piece. Then, attach the other length piece and the other width piece. The result should be one long piece of fabric. Hem that fabric on the bottom. Then, sew the two ends of the fabric together.

6. Do now the top of the canopy. Gather the top edge of the fabric and hem it by hand. Then, use a cord to wrap it tightly. Attach four rings to the cord and then hook it into the ceiling hook.

Now, you are done with your own canopy tent for bed. As you see, not everything can be bought. You can make some of your own if only you are creative and resourceful.

Simplistically, trundle beds are like a king size sleepers split in half. They started becoming popular since the beginning of 20th century. Decreasing space of homes and increasing family members led to its demand. Earlier, the kids twin beds used to be made at home but now you can purchase them from home improvement stores.

Like kids twin beds, trundles are especially crafted for children. However, both of the kind are detachable if one desire to sleep separately rather than camping both sleeping areas one above the other. Due to this detachable capability, the kids trundle beds do not have box springs for storage.

The trundles are economical in large households and save a lot of space. They have wheels attached to them to use as separate sleepers. Trundle beds are a saving grace in houses having no rooms to spare. Though they are generally for kids, trundles are appropriate for adult sleeping too.

The general standard size is 39 inches wide and 75 inches long. In some cases, the length can be increased to 80 inches.

Advantages:

They are normal sized, thus, used by both kids and adults.

Rollers under it make transportation really convenient.

If you have guests coming over or friends of your children, trundle sets can accommodate all. Storing them is easy.

Sleeping on trundles is very comfortable. They are economically priced and saves space as compared to large bulky sleeping platforms.

One does not feel cramped in them. Though the space is less, it is adequate. People used to sprawling wide on big beds may find them uncomfortable at first.

Kids trundle beds are hugely popular with apartment set ups, small homes, or in cramped quarters. With space shortage increasing manifold, these remain the only option.

They are strong, sturdy, durable, and made of quality materials.

House Rules For Kids

1. No talking when Mom or Dad are speaking.

2. Fix your problems with your sibling(s) or I will fix them (and you may not like my fix).

3. Tell your mother that you love her meals, every time she makes you a meal.

4. If we pick you up late from a sports practice or club meeting - - - deal with it and don't have an attitude when you get in the car. Be happy you have "parent limo service" that you don't pay for.

5. Do not speak so loudly that Dad can't hear his conversation with Mom.

6. Don't waste Mom and Dad's money by drinking bottled water around the house. As it is, most bottled water IS tap water. Bottled water is not safer than the water we in the U.S. drink from the tap. And several studies have shown that tap water is considered to taste better than bottled water in blind tests. (Blind tests are when the folks taking the test don't know whether they are drinking tap or bottled water when they say which tastes better.) Drinking tap water costs about 50 cents a year per person. Drinking the same amount of bottled water costs about $1,400 a year. Stop being a sucker! One day I want you to be able to say, "My Dad did not raise a fool!"

7. Don't touch Dad's leftover Chinese food or Mom's dessert.

8. These words work really well: "Hello." "Good Morning." "I Love You." "Please." "Thank you." "Yes Dad." "Yes Mom." "Yes Sir/Ma'am." "No Sir/Ma'am." Use them.

9. Keep your room clean or expect to lose privileges.

10. During family meals at home or when we are out at a restaurant: sit up straight; use your fork and knife; close your mouth while chewing; and stay seated until you are done.

11. Chew gum with your mouth closed. The world does not want to hear you chewing or see the gum in your mouth. Good manners for a horse are not good manners for you.

12. Make your bed each day.

13. Place your dirty clothes in the basket.

14. Don't ever tell me that you are bored. For the most part, only boring people are bored.

15. Don't ask me the same thing over and over and over... I respond poorly to being badgered.

16. When I ask you a question, I want the answer to my question. The more evasive you are, the tougher I get.

17. Don't be a selfish member of the family.

18. Homework comes first.

19. Don't lie to me. That leads to all kinds of problems.

Kids Bed Plans - 5 Practical Kids Beds That Are Easy to Build

There are so many different types of beds for kids on the market today that it may be difficult to choose. When I was looking for plans for a do-it-yourself woodworking project, I found these 5 different types to be practical and creative.

1. Standard Bunk Bed with Character

Bunk beds are often found in kids rooms and are certainly practical since they save space for siblings that share a room. However, when building a bunk bed one can also get creative with a theme. A bunk bed can be turned into a princess castle for girls or race cars for boys. There are all sorts of designs that can be developed with bunk beds.

2. Bookcase Headboard

Another type of kids bed plans that can be used is a normal bed, either single, double, queen or king size, with a bookcase headboard. These beds can be made with an extended headboard to accommodate a bookcase and extra storage space. Children always need extra space for toys and books so this is ideal for any child.

3. Storage Drawers Under Bed

To create more storage space in a kids room, using plans that contain storage space under the bed is a good idea. The bed may be slightly heightened to enable more space for the drawers underneath. This is practical for any child who needs more storage room. In addition, the child can be involved in the construction process by helping decorate the drawers by adding stencil work or peel off stickers.

4. Bunk Beds - Twin on Top, Double on Bottom

The next kids' bed plan is very innovative and interesting. It takes the idea of a bunk bed with a twin mattress on top and a double mattress facing outwards from the wall on the bottom. This is a perfect bed to build if you have limited space for guests in your house. The child can still sleep on the top bunk while a visitor can sleep in the double bed on the bottom. This is a perfect compromise for a long visit.

5. Loft Bed with Desk

One innovative type of bed that is becoming more popular is the loft bed. This is similar to a bunk bed without the bottom bunk. In the space below one could place a desk, utilize as a play area or create storage space for toys, books or clothes. This is a simple way to fill up unnecessary space that kids will love!

We have now seen some simple ways to utilize kids' bed plans to build exciting and innovative beds for kids. Gone are the days where all kids' beds look the same. If you plan on building a bed for your kids, why not make it interesting, practical and fun for your kids. Build them something unique that they will be proud of.

Double the Sweet Dreams with Kid's Bunk Beds

Double your kids' fun with a custom bedroom idea that's twice the comfort, twice the excitement, and twice the convenience of any other - custom kids bunk beds. Whether you're decorating a kids room meant to be shared by siblings or a bedroom for just one kid who happens to have frequent overnight guests, a bunk bed is a space-saving, cost-cutting way to accommodate.

Bunk Beds Create Camaraderie

Siblings don't always get along, but when they do it's an unbreakable bond like no other. Giving your siblings a bunk bed to share is one way to help foster that kind of closeness you crave for them. Sleeping above or below one's brother or sister is a precious shared life experience the two of them will cherish for the rest of their lives.

Two Beds, Two Views

The two individual beds in bunk beds are as distinct as the two individuals sleeping there. The top bunk offers a bird's eye perspective on world, a far-reaching vantage point that's open and expansive. The bottom bunk offers a canopy style sheltering effect that provides a sense of privacy and of safety and security, like sleeping in a den. Chances are, if you have two kids, one will resonate more with the former and the other with the latter. If not, if they both like both experiences, then the siblings can take turns, switching off top and bottom bunks as regularly and frequently as they wish.

Bunk Beds Are Good For Kids Health

Bunk beds help even the most lackadaisical kids to get at least a moment of exercise. Climbing up and down the ladder of a bunk bed helps build strength in the arms and legs, gives a brief cardiovascular boost, and helps kids develop better muscular coordination.

Bunk Beds Can Be Worked Into Any Custom Theme

Any custom theme bed you'd like to design for your kids bedroom can be built as a bunk bed. A castle bed can have the upper turrets and the inner chamber. A jungle bed can have a hollowed out tree trunk for the lower portion and a tree house platform for the upper bunk. A Tudor cottage or a Victorian mansion can have an upstairs and a downstairs. An ocean theme bedroom can have one bunk above the surface and one bunk below the surface of the sea.

Bunk Beds Are Efficient and Economical

Rather than taking up space in a kids room with two beds placed on either side of the room across from each other, install a bunk bed instead and open up that extra space to be used for playing, studying, or storage.

Trundle Bed Plans - Building Your Own Extra Bed for Guests

If you are looking for a better way to find sleeping space for guests or your kid's sleepover friends, then using trundle bed plans for your next bed building project is the way to go. Trundle beds are known to be an inventive way to make your guests feel at home when they come to stay. This bed works well because it does not take up unnecessary space and is easy to be made up and use only when needed.

In most cases, a trundle bed is stored on rollers underneath another bed.  These are usually single twin beds, but can be used with full or double size as well.  It can easily slide out from underneath when needed, and made up with bedding.  The trundle mattress is about 4 inches higher than the average mattress but is secured by a wooden frame, which is attached to the rollers under the original bed.

Some trundle mattresses even pop-up to be the same height as the original one. This type works with springs so it pops up next to the original bed.  Another pop-up type of trundle includes bendable legs to elevate the bed from the ground, to the same height as the original bed. This bed plan is specifically useful when children have sleepovers with their friends.

Some of these beds are easy to assemble and come with Do It Yourself (DIY) kits, or even readily assembled for instant use.  Or with the right quality plans, you can add a trundle underneath an existing bed.  These trundle bed plans come with diagrams, instructions and materials list.

When using a trundle bed it must be used with caution as it is easy to get fingers trapped in the pop up frame which could lead to injury.  Another important measure that could be taken to make your guests feel more at home is to upgrade from the standard mattress that sometimes comes with a premade trundle bed.  When replacing the mattress, take correct measurements to ensure the correct size mattress is purchased.

If one is considering purchasing or using a trundle bed plan for accommodating guests, it is definitely more efficient and comfortable than just having a mattress on the floor, and will make your guests feel more comfortable.  It is also useful for making space in a small room, only pulling the trundle bed out when it is needed.  Using trundle bed plans for your next building project is not as common as bunk beds, for example, but this bed type has been around for years and still remains a popular bed plan for overnight guests.
